The Gaming Giant Hires Popular Battle Royale Producer to Revitalize Troubled Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Transition Follows Lukewarm Response

Brinkman assumes the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming initial reveal last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer informed team members about this strategic move through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a clearer vision.

The president expressed that the team is now reimagining Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to address player expectations.

Trend of Key Recruitment

This announcement follows a comparable action taken by the publisher in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock development group.

Below is the complete message from the president's memo:

Team—

I know you all just wrapped up your meeting - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most driven and creative creators we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to continue.”

With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It confirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had improvements to make. It revealed the need for a clearer identity.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the input to heart and revamped Project ETHOS with a revitalized direction - one that’s ready to deliver on its promise to our fans.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS increases every day. To advance the incredible advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the incoming Director of the team. Following some time of conversations, he starts with us on Monday, October 20.

Ben’s leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming field is extensive, having dedicated the last 15 years creating and managing some of the most well-known franchises in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

Let’s together in welcoming Ben in the coming days. We are all excited to continue witnessing the progress of the game in the months to come.

David

Experience of the Incoming Head

Game Information and Vision

Project Ethos was announced in last year in conjunction with a public demo. Initially, the developers presented the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting step forward on the category."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch states. "Face the rivals with fresh skills, risks, and tests that evolve every round. Will you leave securely with your collected items? Or aim high, risk it all, and trust your group can achieve the highest spot? The option is yours."

Project Ethos has not yet received an confirmed launch window or supported systems, but enthusiasts can expect additional details as development advances.
