19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid season, winning just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in particular - led to him falling of the top ten and eventually parting ways with former coach his previous coach.

Now training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought competitive win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden trophy following the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt since March of the previous year.

The win also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at 21 various tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters together, so to secure a championship is particularly special," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, including in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's defensive approach and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had prompted observers to question if his ability to perform at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and play assertively, supported by an improved serve.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five points to go ahead.

Both players traded breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his first tour championship, took control to push for a final set.

He defended four early-game break points in a competitive third set before Medvedev broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a shot at the net area, with his opponent incapable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
