The defendant pleaded guilty to 17 criminal counts at the courthouse on Friday

A man who spiked candy with sedative and provided them to children at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual crimes against two boys both nine and ten years old.

The accused was arrested after eight minors and a grown-up experienced illness at the location in the summer month.

The 76-year-old, from that region, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.

Yet, he disputed one particular crime he was facing, which was involving a young boy.

The accused was held in detention prior to a subsequent court date on late November.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She said his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer camp which he ran.

The defendant engaged in a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel said, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and request they to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She informed the proceedings Ruben had conducted this practice with the young males "repeatedly", and children had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She stated the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had concerns in July 2025.

Mrs Prior KC continued: "In the summer" his stepson had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.

"They resolved" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

Mrs Prior KC said objects including infant oil, ointment and syringes were located, and his stepson contacted the authorities about his concerns.

She explained the man continued to play the "treat game" with six youngsters that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that point," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, had stated that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

Mrs Prior stated the minors were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson called the police again.

She said Ruben then engaged in the "candy game" in a area of five youngsters.
